About Anywhere Italy

I'm Peter. I live in Pietrasanta, on the coast of Tuscany, with my wife, Sophia.

We moved to Italy in 2021 and lived in Florence, Rome, Sicily, Calabria, and Verona before settling here. I’m a marketer, Sophia is a designer, and we both work online, which is how we were able to move to Italy. We got our residency in 2025. It was a huge deal of red tape, but we made it! :)

This newsletter exists because the guidebooks get it wrong and the influencers perform Italy rather than live it. Most travel content about Tuscany skims the surface of the places everyone already visits. We’re interested in the other 1,000 communes. We write about places we’ve actually been. Restaurants where we’ve eaten. Markets where we shop. Beaches where we swim. Nothing is invented.

Sophia takes most of the photos (unless credited otherwise). I write most of the posts. We’ve both studied art history, sociology, literature, and Italian, which shapes how we see what we’re looking at.

Pietrasanta pier. Our house is 50meters from it.

The focus is on Versilia, the Apuan Alps, and the surrounding stretches of Tuscany. We also spend a lot of time in Liguria, Lazio, Veneto, Umbria, and Piemonte. That’s where we know the real hidden places. We sometimes venture even further, but that’s more like an occasion rather than a habit.

Anywhere Italy is mostly free.

Free subscribers get our weekly Sunday Espresso email and four weeks of on-site access to every new piece as it publishes.

Paid subscribers (€9/month, €90/year) get the full, unlimited archive, community chat access to ask us anything about Italy, along with the usual weekly email.

We have the Italian Year discount for families and couples, because travel is usually a two-person decision. The discount comes with 30% OFF on annual group subscriptions. It’s €63/person/year, instead of the regular €90/year. → Get The Discount
